Ships have been coming to dock at Aalborg Pier for hundreds of years now. There is where the ships come to leave behind the barren ocean winds and the crashing waves and where the crew can step onto dry land again. In the past, it never took long for the seafarers’ tales from distant shores to be retold on dry land.
And today, despite the fact that sails have been replaced with engines, wooden boxes haven been replaced by storage containers and nautical charts are now GPSs, it is still the same water that splashes against the pier, and whenever a boat docks, it still sparks a thirst and curiosity for tales from the sea. A multi-sensory experience
The shipyard Aalborg Vaerft A/S was founded in 1912. It was located just east of Pier 5 Hotel, and the hotel’s bar has been named VAERFT in honour of the shipyard’s and the old port’s history. VAERFT is much more that a hotel bar. VAERFT is Aalborg’s new local cocktail bar, the place to relax with your colleagues after a long dat, the place to meet before a concert, and the place there innovative cocktails and fantastic surroundings add a new dimension to your evening out.
The aim is clear: Jesper Skov, VARFT’s bar manager wants to create spectacular cocktails that will appeal to all senses. And he does this using molecular methods and international themes never been seen on Aalborg’s bar scene.
